The 88 Days

What are the 88 days
and why do they matter?

To get your second-year Working Holiday Visa, you need to complete 88 days of specified work in a regional area of Australia. Farm work is the most common way to do it.

88

Days required

You need to complete 88 calendar days of eligible regional work. Days don't need to be consecutive -you can split them across different farms or regions.

7

Eligible states

Work must be done in a designated regional area. All 7 Australian states and territories count: QLD, NSW, VIC, SA, WA, NT and TAS.

35.25h

Hours per week

Working 35.25+ hours in a week counts as 7 days toward your 88. Fewer hours still count - Farm88 calculates the exact days for you automatically.

What counts as farm work

Fruit and vegetable picking, packing, pruning, planting, farm maintenance, shearing, feedlot work, cotton and grain harvesting -all count toward your 88 days.

What does NOT count

Working in a city restaurant, hostel, or retail store does not count -even if in a regional town. The work must be agricultural or related to primary industry.

Proof you need

You need a completed 1263 form signed by your employer, plus payslips. Farm88 generates a PDF log of all your entries -ready to attach to your visa application.

Important: Farm88 is a tool to help you find farms and track your days -it is not legal advice. Always verify your specific situation with the Australian Department of Home Affairs or a registered migration agent before lodging your visa application.
The Problem

Farm work exists.
Finding it is the hard part.

Every backpacker goes through the same nightmare. We built Farm88 to end it.

Outdated listings everywhere

Most farm directories haven't been touched since 2019. You call the number -it's disconnected.

No way to know who's hiring right now

You email 20 farms. Silence. None of them needed workers this week -and there's no way to tell.

Tracking your 88 days is a mess

Spreadsheets, notes apps, voice messages to yourself. Is it 62 days? Or 64?

Scattered. Impossible to navigate.

Facebook groups, random websites, hostel noticeboards. There's no single source of truth.

Farm88 fixes all of this. In one free app.

We pull data from government sources, refresh it every Monday, and show you which farms are hiring right now -on a map, filtered by crop and region, with direct contact info.

Nothing you don't.

Farm88 is completely free to use. The map, farm listings, Hiring Now badge, Near Me filter and 88-day tracker are all free -no subscription, no paywall, no hidden fees. We believe access to this information should be free for every backpacker.
WikiFarms hasn't been updated since 2019. Farm88 updates its data every Monday from official government sources, shows you which farms are actively hiring right now with the Hiring Now badge, has a built-in 88-day tracker, and lets you filter by crop type and season. It's a completely different product built for how backpackers actually find work today.
Farms with the green Hiring Now badge have an active job listing on the official Workforce Australia government platform -updated every Monday. It means they had an open position in the last 7 days. That said, always call ahead before traveling -hiring status can change daily.
The map and farm listings require an internet connection to load. Once a farm is open on your screen the details stay visible. The 88-day tracker works offline -you can log your hours and days even without signal, which is common in rural Australia. Your data syncs automatically when you're back online.
You can still log your days in the tracker manually -just type the farm name. The tracker works for any farm, not only those in our database. For the map listings, you can tap "Report" on any farm to suggest corrections, or email us to add a farm that's missing.
You need a signed Form 1263 from your employer and your payslips. Farm88 generates a detailed PDF log of all your entries -farm name, dates, hours per day and days counted -which you can export and attach to your visa application as supporting evidence. Always keep your original payslips too.
Yes. You can split your 88 days across as many farms as you need, in different states, and they don't have to be consecutive. The Farm88 tracker handles multiple entries and adds them all up automatically. Many backpackers do 2-3 farms across different harvest seasons.
